After Care

Welch & Cornett aftercare representative and grief supporter, Nichole Hawkins, recently attended the training Understanding and Responding to Complicated Mourning.

Hawkins has completed another 30 hours of classroom education by the internationally recognized Center for Loss and Life Transition in Fort Collins, Colorado.  This course is one of five required to earn the Death and Grief Studies Certificate.

The course was taught by Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt, Ph.D., a noted author, educator, and grief counselor.  The Center for Loss and Life Transition was founded in 1983 by Dr. Wolfelt. It is a private organization dedicated to furthering our understanding of grief.

This particular training was number four of the five courses she is required to achieve her certification in Death and Grief Studies. Nichole plans finish her certification this August. The courses that she has completed thus far are the following:

  • Comprehensive Bereavement Skills
  • Support Group Facilitating
  • Helping Children and Adolescents Cope with Grief
  • Understanding and Responding to Complicated Grief

The fifth class in August will be, PTSD: Companioning the Traumatized Griever. Our hope is that even after receiving certification, she can still continue to attend other specific trainings to help further her knowledge in grief and utilize this value information to help our community during the most difficult times in their lives.
