Carl E. Floyd

November 30, 1928 ~ March 13, 2018 (age 89)

Carl E. Floyd, age 89, of Linton, passed away at 9:56 P.M. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.  He was born in Bloomfield on November 30, 1928, the son of Rex L. & Pearl (Mullis) Floyd.

Carl served our country in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II.  Carl was a graduate from Bloomfield High School and was a 1952 graduate from Indiana University, where he received his bachelor degree.  He received his masters and later received his administration certification from Indiana State University.  Throughout his working years, he taught and coached basketball at Dana High School, Clinton High School, Pendleton High School, Cascade High School, Worthington-Jefferson High School, and Linton-Stockton High School, where he retired as Principal in 1989.  He had a true love for coaching basketball, but also coached baseball, football, track, and cross-country.  During the summers he taught drivers education, drove semi- trucks, and painted homes.

Carl was a member of Grace Gospel Church of Linton.  He enjoyed fishing, painting homes, and watching basketball.  

He is survived by his wife, whom he married on April 13, 1996, Lorene (Trusty) Floyd of Linton, three children, Stephen Floyd of Bloomfield, Denise Floyd-Graves of Bloomfield, and Stuart Floyd (Melanie Kim) of Kent, Washington, two grandchildren, Kelsey Graves of Greenwood and  Allison Veatch of Linton, and his two great-grandsons, Wyatt Lee Veatch and Wesley Floyd Veatch.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Laurel and David Floyd.

Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 19, 2018.  Burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery in Bloomfield, with military graveside rites. 

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-6 P.M., and Monday from 10 A.M. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Grace Gospel Church through the funeral home.
