Cecil C. Wayland, age 78, of Spencer, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at his residence. He was born in Spencer, Indiana on July 10, 1940, the son of Cecil Calvin & Gretchen (Martin) Wayland.
Cecil was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for Bill Morris at Spencer Monument Works. He began working at General Electric in 1967 and he retired in 2016. He was the longest member of the IBEW Local Union 2249, Bloomington and the top senior in the Bloomington General Electric's history topping out at the closest to 50 years seniority and still working at age 75 when the company sold and shut down in June 2016.
Cecil was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge, both in Spencer.
He is survived by his sister, Carolyn C. Ottmers of Solsberry, a nephew, Michael Ottmers, and a good friend, Becky Gaddis of Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside service will be held at Chambersville Cemetery at 11 A.M. on Saturday, January 19, 2019, with Carolyn Anderson officiating. Military graveside rites will be provided by the Owen County Honor Guard.
There will be no public visitation.
