Edward Reeves Smith

July 22, 1930 ~ May 29, 2019 (age 88)


Edward "Ed" Reeves Smith, 88, of Spencer, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Ed was born on July 22, 1930 in Mulberry Grove, Illinois; he was the son of Clarence and Fern (Reeves) Smith.

Ed served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from Uniroyal in Indianapolis as a supervisor and also from the Indiana Masonic Home. Ed was a member of the First Baptist Church in Spencer, Spencer Lodge 95, Terre Haute Scottish Rite, Terre Haute Zorah Shrine, Greene County York Rite, Bloomfield York Rite, Royal Order of Scotland and Bartimeus Lodge U.D. He enjoyed hunting and loved spending time with his family.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Sue (Brown) Smith, of Spencer, IN; two daughters, Angela Portteus-Browne (William) of Spencer, IN and Anita Beining (Nathan) of Kokomo, IN; one brother, Max Smith of Indianapolis, IN; three grandchildren, Ian Portteus, Zachary Beining and Emily Beining; two great grandchildren Greyson Portteus and Claira Portteus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Ryan Beining, son-in-law Michael Portteus, and two sisters Vera Nell Smith and Isa Mae Wood.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home with Randy Seipel officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery with military rites provided by the Owen County Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with the Spencer Masonic Lodge #95 and Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute providing rites at 6:30 PM.
