Edwin Dale Drake passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018 at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.  He was born April 14, 1927 in Fairbanks, Indiana to Clevva and Elsie Mae (Carter) Drake.  His parents and siblings Neale, Kent, Maurine, and Carter predeceased him.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Betty (Steele); sons, Dennis (Phyllis) and Dana; daughters, Mary Ellen (Terry) Egnew and Debra (Ed) Hammerschmidt.  Grandchildren include Michelle (Donnie) Reed, Will (Jess) Drake, Miranda (Jason) Fleeger, Patrick (Pam) Ameis, Tony (Jerrell) Drake, Elizabeth (Michael) Mohan, Lyndsey (Mike) Olish and Emily (Dusty) Henning.  Great grandchildren are Drake, Dakota and Dora Reed, Kate and Caroline Drake, Catherine Ameis, Josie Drake, Olivia Mohan, Evangeline, Amelia and Dimitri Henning.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Ed was raised on a farm near Fairbanks, joined the Navy in 1945 and crossed the Pacific twice to bring troops home following their service in World War II.  He graduated from Indiana University in 1950, met Betty when he found her name on a list of recent I.U. graduates and went to her home near Dugger to sell her a life insurance policy.  They were married three months later and started their family shortly thereafter.  He loved his family, golf, horseshoes and I.U. basketball.  Ed was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  As his death drew near, he was surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren who will cherish his memory and miss his many humorous sayings, such as “simmer down” and “ratem and scatum”.
Visitation will take place on Monday, March 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1759 E State Highway 54, Linton, IN 47441.  The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m.  Then Ed will be taken back home to Fairbanks for burial at Pogue Cemetery where many generations of Drakes await his arrival.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton.
