Erma J. Rogers, age 89, of Linton, formerly of Tempe, Arizona, Carlisle and Paxton, passed away at 5:35 P.M. on Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born in Paxton on Sept. 19, 1928, the daughter of Donald & Lillie (Ferguson) Whitlock.
Erma was a 1946 graduate of Carlisle High School. She worked in her father’s grocery store until age 30, and moved to Arizona, working as a cashier in the grocery business. She married the late Fred Rogers, and they owned and operated grocery businesses in Sullivan and Carlisle. They moved to Arizona and worked in the grocery chains there. They later purchased an apartment complex and owned and operated a Realestate business.
She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church of Jasonville. She was a member of the Without Walls Assembly of God Church in Tempe, AZ. She loved her friends, family, and the Phoenix Suns.
She is survived by her niece, Donna (Chet) McCammon of Linton, a nephew, Dan (Becky) Tarrh of Granbury, Texas, great-nieces and nephews, Kathy (Bill) Morrison of Linton, Brad (Luanne) McCammon of Linton, Laura Tarrh of Colorado, Emily (Chase) Houston, Texas, great-great nieces and nephews, Jason (Kirsten) Morrison, Jared (Allie) Morrison, Kelsey (Jon) Hall, and Carley McCammon, three great-great-great nephews, Will Morrison, Reid Morrison, and Zach Morrison. She is also survived by her husband’s three nieces, Sandy (Huey) McKinley, Barbara (Larry) Lamb, and Margo (Bruce) Donar.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Frank Kromer, her husband, her sister, Lois (Ernest) Tarrh, and a niece, Sarah Lervik.
Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 22, 2018, with Cliff Gano officiating. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Carlisle.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.
