Ethel Viola (Henry) Sowders, 88, of Whitehall, Indiana, passed away peacefully June 8, 2018, at the Garden Villa Nursing Home in Bloomington. Ethel was born in Bloomington, Indiana on February 18, 1930 to Odeth and Dorothy (Close) Henry. Ethel was a homemaker and at one time worked at RCA and Sarkes-Tarzian in Bloomington. Ethel enjoyed puzzles, working in the yard and spending precious time with her family that she loved dearly. Ethel was known by many as "Granny" and never met a stranger.
Ethel is survived by her children, Robert (Alice) McAuley of Bloomington, Indiana, Vicki Sowders-Herrod of Atlanta, Georgia, Darrell Sowders of Whitehall, Indiana, daughter-in-laws, Gloria McAuley, Carolyn Sue McAuley, grandchildren, Sheila McAuley, Lora McAuley, Lisa (Shawn) Hutcherson, Greg McAuley, Stephen Dawson, Shawna (Brian) Taylor, Jason (Heather) McAuley, Tia Herrod, great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Aimee, Cameron, Krista, Emily, Ben, Ty, Lexi, Wynne, great-great-grandchildren, Legaci, Isaiah, Leilani, Forrest, siblings, Gaylord (Mary) Henry, Gilena Arthur, Byrel Jeffries, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, sons, John McAuley, James McAuley, infant Charles McAuley, grandson, Justin Wright, and siblings, Walter Henry, Warren Henry, Wilma Rumple, and Paul Henry.
Visitation will be 11:00 AM until the Funeral services at 1:00 PM, Friday, June 15, 2018 at the West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer. Burial will follow in Whitehall Cemetery.
