Hulene E. "Hugh" Wilcox, age 80, of Spencer, passed away peacefully at 4:45 A.M. on Monday, February 18, 2019, at his residence. He was born in Whiting on December 10, 1938, the son of Hulene H.E. & Rose (Greenwell) Wilcox.
Hugh served in the Army National Guard from 1958-1964. He retired from AT & T after 33 years service in 1989. Following his retirement, he went to work in 1990 at Indiana University, retiring from there in 2009 after 18 years of service.
Hugh was a born again Christian of the Baptist faith. He was a woodworker, making beautiful furniture, and enjoyed collecting many things.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Jane (Hall) Wilcox of Spencer, four daughters, Dana (Paul) Keller of Carmel, Denise Steele of Louisville, Janie (Richard Frank) Wilcox of Bloomington, and Mandie (Chris Sturgis) McCarty of Spencer, a son, Hank (Jennifer Mullis) Booker of Spencer, a son-in-law, Bob Pass of Indianapolis, two sisters, Susan Rushe of Woods Bay, Montana & June Mastey of Griffith, eleven grandchildren, Joshua, Ellyn, Coop, Wilco, Michael, Andrew, Brody, Jacob, Tucker, Kyra, & Issabelle, and a grandson due in May.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Claire Rushe, and his daughter, Diane Pass.
Funeral service will be held at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 23, 2019, with Pastor Tracy Killinger officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11 AM until the time of service.
