Lewis Samuel "Pete" Kirkwood, age 85, of Spencer, passed away at 12:10 A.M. on Sunday, November 18, 2018, at IU Hospice House in Bloomington. He was born in Paragon on Jan. 20, 1933, the son of Bert & Flossie (Baugh) Kirkwood.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired as a Union Lineman as a Foreman and worked at Walmart in later years.
He was a member of the Spencer Nazarene Church where he enjoyed driving the Sunday School Bus and attending church. He was also a Lifetime member of the Spencer American Legion.
Pete loved to fish, hunt, and play euchre. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Mary Margaret (Calvert) Kirkwood, two sons, Lewis (Mary) Kirkwood of Spencer and Vernon (Mindy) Kirkwood of Terre Haute, a daughter, Cora Sue (Garry) Jones of Greencastle, siblings, Martha Bandy of Spencer, Lloyd (Lynn) Criss of Gosport, and Hazel McCarg, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, his mother, Flossie Criss, his step-father who raised him, Carl Criss, and siblings, Mary Richardson, Floyd Criss, and Geraldine Criss.
Funeral service will be held at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer at 1:00 P.M on Wednesday, November 21, 2018. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer with military graveside rites by the Owen County Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 A.M. until the time of service.
