R. Mike Denney, age 62, of Spencer, passed away peacefully 1:00 P.M. Monday, January 21, 2019, at IU Hospice House in Bloomington. He was born in Bloomington on June 29, 1956, the son of Bob & Julia (Shumate) Harris.
He was a 1974 graduate of Owen Valley High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force and served our country during the end of the Vietnam War. He attended Ivy Tech in Bloomington for heating and cooling. Mike worked as a field tech for Baker Engineering, laying cable for AT & T. He worked seventeen years for Rumpke, then Monster Trash. He retired as a bartender working at Skid Row in Spencer.
Mike was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and ABATE, all of Spencer. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, country music, his grandchildren, and having fun and good times with family and friends.
Mike is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Hilda Beth (Sanders) Denney of Spencer, two daughters, Robin (Scott) Hay and Myka (Thomas) Williams, both of Spencer, six grandchildren, Iris Hay, Eternity Hay, Mariska Hay, ShyAnah Bixler, Jazmyn Williams, and Mathew Williams, a sister, Judy (Terry) Neill of Stinesville and Kevin Denney of Florida, his niece, Terri (Dan) Steffen, a nephew, Tim (Autumn) Crowe, and his father.
Funeral service will be held at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, January 25, 2019. Burial will follow at Chambersville Cemetery in Spencer, with military honors provided by the Owen County Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 P.M. and Friday from 10 A.M. until the time of service.
