Richard Eugene Wells

May 30, 1934 ~ May 14, 2019 (age 84)

Richard Eugene Wells, age 84, of Solsberry, passed away peacefully at 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at his residence. He was born in Clay County on May 30, 1934, the son Everett Ray & Louella (Hubbell) Wells.

Richard was a 1952 graduate of Coal City High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He worked as a construction project manager estimator for many years in Terre Haute, Indiana and Portland, Oregon, retiring after forty years of service.  He was in a business partnership at Arrow Construction Company, having built homes and local businesses during the 1980's.

Richard had a visionary mind with design and architecture, from small projects in the community to large buildings. He enjoyed building his own home and others, landscaping, woodworking, and building furniture. He had a great sense of humor, with a joke for everyone.  He was an extraordinary person who will be missed by his family and community.

He was a member of the Solsberry Christian Church and the Coal City American Legion Putoff-Lautenschlager Post #141.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta (Farmer) Lavelle-Wells of Solsberry, his son, Daniel J. (Beth Ann) Tucker of Brazil, a step-son, Ray E. Lavelle of Orlando, FL, two sisters, Madona Slough of Coal City and Wanema (Stan)McBride of Indianapolis, a granddaughter, Ashleigh (Brian) Baumgartner of Brazil, and two great-grandchildren, Marley and Cross Baumgartner, and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant brother, and a grandson, Joshua Tucker. 

Funeral service is at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 18, 2019, with Tom Cooperider officiating.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 A.M. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Solsberry Christian Church, through the funeral home.
