Sammye (Dina) Smith, age 74, of Linton, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at her residence. She was born in Chicago, IL on April 6, 1944, the daughter of the late Howard Dina & Grace (Buck) Heller. She had lived in Bloomfield and Bloomington prior to retiring in Linton with her loving husband of 26 years, Bruce.
She is survived by her husband; son, Jon (Paula) Hodge of New Goshen, IN; daughters, Angie (Trent) Harting of VanWert, OH, Sammye Fish of Linton and Robin (Eric) Waggoner of Lyons; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren and her brother, Buck Wall of Fountain Valley, CA.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Dorine Stutchel.
Sammye was a local artist who, after attending Proviso High School in Chicago, attended the Art Institute of Chicago. She later moved to Bloomfield where she was the town "Meter Maid" as well as continuing her art work.
She had many exhibits to show off her wonderful artwork over the years. These exhibits were located around the central and southern part of the state and they include, The Hoosier Solon in Indianapolis; The Carnegie Heritage Art Center; two shows at the Shawnee Theater in Bloomfield; the Scotland Indiana Festival; the Bloomfield Apple Festival; The Mitchell Persimmon Fest; the Bloomington Library; the Waldron Art Center; Bloomington Water Color Society; the Mortgage Group; the Monroe Bank; the Bellevue Gallery; Gallery North; Baker Place Gallery; The Venue; Tu Tu Bene Wine Café; Enwright Center in Elletsville; The Franklin Gallery of Fine Art in Franklin; Carousel Winery in Bedford; Artworks of Martinsville; The Paint Box of Nashville and the Brown County Art Guild.
Per Sammye's wishes, there will be no public services.
Friends may make memorial donations in Sammye's name to the Greene County Humane Society at 1026 N 1375 W, Linton, IN 47441 or through the funeral home.
