Vaughn Leslie Johnson, 90, of Spencer, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 4, 2020. He was born in Spencer, IN to Merle and Nina (Greene) Johnson on May 5, 1929. After graduating from Spencer High School in 1947, he attended Purdue University. After college, he relocated to Indianapolis to work for Kennedy Tank. There, he met Pauline Poole, and they were married in the spring of 1956. The couple moved to Spencer shortly after, where Vaughn started a farm equipment sales business. Following that, he started his own excavating business. The excavating business became his passion, and he spent 45 years doing work he loved before retiring. He was also a founding member of Lifeway Baptist Church in Ellettsville.
Vaughn is survived by his sons, Alan Johnson, Stephen (Denise) Johnson, grandchildren, Stephanie Johnson, Derek Johnson, Emily Fortin, Gavin Smith, and Gage Smith, great-grandchildren, Emma Fortin and Landon Fortin.
Vaughn was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Johnson, his parents, infant sister, Gwendolyn Johnson, sister, Juanita Meek and brother in law, Edmund Meek.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 9, 2020, at the Lifeway Baptist Church, 7821 State Road 46, Ellettsville. Pastor Steve Von Bokern will officiate. Entombment will follow in Chambersville Cemetery Mausoleum.
Visitation is 9:00 AM until the time of service on Thursday at the church.
