William "Bill" L. Callihan, age 65, of Linton, passed away at 1:56 AM on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born in Linton on November 1, 1952, the son of Maurice "Bob" & Helen (Kramer) Callihan.
Bill was a 1971 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School. He worked in reclamation spending time in Columbia, Missouri in early years, where he met Janis Pierce on Aug. 16, 1974 and married on Nov. 16, 1974. They lived in different area's and returned to Linton to make it their home in 1978. Bill work for Peabody Coal and AMAX Coal. He retired from Operating Engineers #841, while working on Interstate 69.
Bill was a member of the Masonic Lodge #676 of Switz City, B.P.O. Elks #866 and Loyal Order of Moose #1434, both of Linton, the Scottish Rite and Zorah Shrine, both of Terre Haute. Bill was also a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
Bill enjoyed watching high school football, NASCAR, IU Basketball, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Janis A. Callihan of Linton, two daughters, Cindy Ann (Chris) Holcomb of Linton and Mandy (Chad) Kendricks of Crawfordsville, a son, Sean Callihan of Linton, a sister, Karen (John) Parker of Bay Village, Ohio, grandchildren, Samantha and Peyton Holcomb, Emma, Addison, and Colton Kendricks, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jerry R. Callihan.
Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, with burial following at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 PM, with Masonic Services at 7 PM, and on Wednesday from 9 AM until service.
Memorial contributions can be made in honor of Bill and his granddaughter Emma to Riley Children's Hospital, through the funeral home.
