Buddy Jay Cunningham, age 59, of Spencer, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 3, 2020 surrounded by his family after battling liver cancer. He was born in Bloomington, Indiana on October 31, 1960, the son of Roy & Bettylou (Sims) Cunningham.
Buddy was a graduate of Owen Valley High School. He was a mechanic who worked for Truax Car Care the past 6 years, but has been a mechanic for the Spencer area several years. He attended the Spencer Methodist Church and Hoosier Hills Emmaus in Judah.
Buddy was an avid race car driver. He built his first stock car in his parents garage when he was 14 years old with his best friend Anthony. Buddy has raced sprint cars since 1997. He's a Championship modified driver and car owner of the 2016 Championship at Paragon Speedway. Buddy enjoyed riding his motorcycle and loved spending time with his grandchildren and dog Rastus.
Buddy is survived by his two sons, Josh Cunningham and wife Dalicia and Mitchel Cunningham; mother, Bettylou Cunningham all of Spencer; brother, Danny Cunningham and wife Vicki of Michigan; uncle, John C. Sims Jr. of Spencer; and five grandchildren, Madison, Jaylan, Brianna, Kyden and Hanna.
He was preceded in death by his father Roy Cunningham and grandparents John and Helen Sims..
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Riverside Cemetery with his son Josh Cunningham officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM Wednesday at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home.
