Dennis Dale (nicknamed Tiny) Prunty, 67, of Spencer, passed away unexpectedly from complications of Diabetes, on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at the McCormicks Creek Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home in Spencer. Dennis was born on December 23, 1953, in Bedford, Indiana to James Malcolm and Veineta Carolyn (Johnson) Prunty. He graduated from Needmore High School in 1972, and then worked at Brunner Engineering and Sarkes Tarzian before moving on to work at RCA for 27 years. On December 31, 1983, he married Kimberly Eugenia Wilson. They raised two children: Brandi and Michael.
Dennis was a cat lover whose hobbies included family time, gun collecting, CB radio, and working on and building radios and computers. His passion, however, was amateur radio (HAM). As an amateur radio operator, Dennis (KB9HJW) was a storm spotter for the SKYWARN network, reporting local storm conditions to the National Weather Service. He was also a member of the Bloomington Amateur Radio Club, where he volunteered for many years as a communicator in events such as the Hilly Hundred and the Red Eye Relay.
To know Tiny was to love him. He never knew a stranger. He was known for his quick wit, his big heart, and his ability to tell a whopper of a story.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, James and Veineta, brother, James Earl Prunty, his sister Beverly Annette Weigle, his brother-in-law, Jimmy Brock, his niece, Toni Anne Brock, and his father-in-law, Charles Wilson.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly; his daughter, Brandi Michelle (Doug) Smeltzer of Freedom; his son Dennis Michael (Tina) Prunty of Spencer; his grandchildren Brooklyn, Brinden, Haylen, Codie, Brayden, Katelynn, Ashten, and Brantley; mother-in-law Doris Wilson; his brothers Charles Howard (Connie) Prunty of Shoals and Danny Joe Prunty of Avoca; his sisters Nancy Ellen Brock of Judah and Bonnie Joyce (Edward) Johnson; and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 24, 2021, at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home, 105 North Montgomery Street, Spencer. Pastor Christopher Breeden will officiate. Burial will follow in Chambersville Cemetery in Spencer.
Visitation will be 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Friday, April 23, 2021 and again 11:00 AM until time of service on Saturday, all at the funeral home.
