James William Ewald, age 74, of Freedom, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021 at the IU Health Bloomington Hospice House. He was born in Anderson, Indiana on November 5, 1946 to Gilbert and Mildred (Hart) Ewald.
James served in the United States Army from 1965-1972. He worked for New York Central Railroad (Conrail Lines and CSX) retiring after 37 years as a locomotive engineer. James was a member of the VFW Post 1405 in Spencer, VFW Post 6128 in Brownsburg and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (BLE #121). James enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
James is survived by his two sons, Sam H. (Shizuka) Sun of Las Vegas, NV and James E. (Ruth) Ewald of Grovetown, GA; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Chiu wei Ewald and one sister Carla Pedersen.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home with Pastor Jerel Clanney officiating. Interment will follow at Chambersville Cemetery in Spencer with military rites presented by the Owen County Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:30 AM until the time of service.
