Marjorie Ann (Straly) Sciscoe, 89, of Spencer, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at her residence. Marjorie was born in Edgar County, Illinois, on August 12, 1931 to L. Dottus Straly and Alice (Everly) Straly. Marjorie graduated from Patricksburg High School and enjoyed teaching at Grace Baptist Academy as a kindergarten teacher for 15 years, touching many students lives. She retired from the Post Office in Bloomington. Marjorie was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church and played the organ for many years receiving an award for her service to the church. Marjorie's passions were church, family, quilts and ART! She was incredibly talented in everything she attempted. She was actively involved in art and quilting clubs where she had many dear friends. She also volunteered numerous hours at the Endright Center and at the Residence at McCormicks Creek Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Marjorie loved to enter her art, crafts, and quilts in the Owen County Fair, having won too many ribbons to count. She will be cherished and missed by many.
Marjorie is survived by her children, Gregory L. (Eileen) Sciscoe of Highland Lakes, NJ, Tracy (Cheryl) Sciscoe of Spencer, Kristy (Steve) Tyra of Clay City, and LeAnn (Keith) Wilcoxson of St. Louis, MO, a son-in-law, Tim May of Titusville, FL, brother, Miles Howe (Peggy) Straly, twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 64 years, Austin L. Sciscoe, daughter, Camille May, siblings, Bruce Straly, Mary Mitten, Wynona Goettel,Warren Straly, Scott Straly, and Lemoyne Parnell.
A celebration of life will take place on 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the Grace Baptist Temple Church, 2320 North Smith Pike, Bloomington. Pastor Steve Tyra will officiate. Private burial will take place in Splinter Ridge Cemetery.
A receiving of friends will be 11:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday, March 6, at the church.
